School Bus Information Regarding the road closures 2/2/2023
**Due to road closure on Scenic Dr, Ritchies have made the decision to start any Scenic Dr runs from Rangimarie Rd on the corner of Scenic and Rangimarie. We will be making a u turn there and all drop off and pick up will be at the bus stop on the corner. For any more information please contract operations for further support.
Woodlands Park – As Scenic Drive is closed between Titirangi roundabout and Woodlands Park Rd, our plan is to start the run from the top end of Woodlands Park Rd by the filter station and work our way down Woodlands Park Rd (reverse direction) to Huia Rd roundabout then left into Huia Rd to the Titirangi Rd roundabout. Reverse in afternoon.
Wood Bay/ Otitori Bay – Park Rd/ South Titirangi Rd would be a practical start point here if students can make their way there from further down. This will be the final drop in the afternoon.
Atkinson Rd – Official diversion from AT is via Daffodil St and Konini Rd so this will also apply for the school runs.
GEIS Start of School 2023
Kia ora koutou katoa
On Monday this week, the Secretary for Education took the decision to direct schools and other education providers in Auckland to close for on-site instruction (learning) because of the weather emergency and the need to reduce traffic on roads
After review today, the Secretary has lifted the Direction for schools to be closed. Therefore, at GEIS the school year will start as planned on Tuesday, 7 February for Year 7 students and Wednesday, 8 February for Year 8 students. Our school office will be open as usual from tomorrow and our uniform shop will also be open on Thursday and Friday this week. Uniform bookings are essential and these can be made through our school website.
Year 7 Pōwhiri Organisation This will go ahead as planned on Tuesday, 7 February. We are aware that with other local school traffic, as well as road closures, weather issues etc, some families may have difficulty getting to school on time for the Pōwhiri. We have therefore adjusted our organisation and times as follows:
8.15am Students arrive in full school uniform and go to their classroom. Teachers in high viz vests will be available in the school grounds to help our new Year 7 students find their classrooms.
IMPORTANT! There will be no Parking available on the school grounds. However, all pedestrian gates will be open for access.
8.30am. Parents and whanau who are attending the pōwhiri are welcome to make their way into the gymnasium. Class teachers will bring their students down to the bottom courts.
9.15am. Pōwhiri commences and following the Pōwhiri students will return to their classrooms with their teacher.
Meet the Teacher Unfortunately, our scheduled ‘Meet the Teacher’ Day had to be postponed and we now have new date of Thursday, 16 February from1.30pm to 7.30pm. Further information will follow on how to book an appointment time.
Please note that school will be closing for students at 1pm on this day. A letter with further details will follow.
This has certainly been a difficult week with many changes and we certainly appreciate the patience and support that we have from our school community.

Students will need their P.E. gear at school every day. https://www.geis.school.nz/information/uniform
School Swimming Pool
The school pool will be used by classes for the first half of the term for swimming lessons. Students will need their togs and a towel at school on their P.E days. The school pool will also be open at lunchtimes for students to have a swim. Each mini school will be allocated a day.
Students are allowed to bring a phone to school however all phones are locked up in the class safe for the entire school day and given back to students at the end of the day. Students have no access to phones during the day. If families need to contact their children then please contact the school office.
If any student is taking medication these medicines need to be dropped off at our Health Centre clearly labeled with the students name, room number and dosage. Students are then administered with the medication at the Health Centre.
Drop offs and Pick ups
Can we please ask all families to drop off and pick up students at the front or back gates. Please avoid driving into school to drop off and pick up students as this is a safety risk to our students.
All senior leaders are available to discuss any concerns you may have :)
